Cat Scouts World Headquarters is lucky to be located in a nice neighborhood on the edge of a forest where the neighbors look after each other and everyone knows everyone elses’ names.
And this week, one of the neighbors (the one, in fact, who saved the Denmaster’s life in October) stuck flags in the ground next to the driveway in front of everybody’s house on the whole entire street so that no one would forget about Flag Day.
And I know that not a single Cat Scout will have forgotten about Flag Day either (which is today).
In the United States, Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on this day in 1777. The United States Army also celebrates the Army Birthday on this date; Congress adopted “the American continental army” on June 14, 1775. 14 of the Denmaster’s ancesters were members of The Continental Army.
President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation in 1916 that officially established June 14 as Flag Day. But in wasn’t until 1949 that National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.
On June 14, 1937, Pennsylvaniabecame the first U.S. state to celebrate Flag Day as a state holiday.
So get out your flags, kittehs. For this merit badge, photoshopping flags on your photo is acceptable. If you do not live in the U.S., celebrate with a photo of your own country’s flag, and maybe you can tell everycat a little bit about it. Post your photo in the Flag Day Group.
